Oliver Cain: It’s A Boy | f/Billy Apple
27 Jan – 7 Feb

It’s a Boy is a 10 day exhibition from Oliver Cain which runs from the 27th Jan – 7th Feb and raises money for the New Zealand AIDS Foundation. Proceeds from the sale of each work will be donated to the NZ AIDS Foundation. The exhibition also includes eight remaining works by Billy Apple from his ART FOR AIDS series, of which 100% of the proceeds are donated to the NZ AIDS Foundation.

There is no formal opening for this event but there is an event from 5 – 7pm on Friday 5th February, with refreshments, to celebrate Auckland’s Pride Festival.

Cain’s new series of works references the figure and gently probes at confronting and challenging issues surrounding sexuality, gender and identity. Using ambiguity and stereotypes these playful works deconstruct the notions of sexuality and queer identity. These minimal paintings with their clean black lines, bright block colours and concealed text, are deceptively simple, yet offer a compounded complexity focusing’ in on the body, how it’s viewed, employed and interpreted.

Exhibition runs from 27th January – 7th February
