Andrea du Chatenier & Oliver Cain at the Portage Awards

Andrea du Chatenier & Oliver Cain are both finalists this years Portage Awards which runs until February 2022.

Andrea du Chatenier ‘s pop-baroque work Softball (left image) was awarded one of two Merit awards by judge Raewyn Atkinson. Du Chatenier’s award winning work is a mixture of stoneware and porcelain clays – celebrating clay as an “independent thinker” and a “theatre” in which a drama of risk and control unfolds. Look out for Andrea’s debut exhibition at the gallery (July 2022) as well as a showcase at Aotearoa Art Fair in March.

Oliver Cain’s work Fruit Bowl V (right) speaks of highly personal encounters while holding onto the anonymity of each encounter. The clean and almost clinical look of the stark white porcelain, contrasts expected ideas of intimacy and connection – referenced by each hand sculpted banana.
